Comparison of cold and vulcanization welding for conveyor belts

Dec 22, 2020

Cold welding belt welding and hot vulcanization belt welding. The strength of these two joints can reach 80-90% of the conveyor belt; the strength of the mechanical joint is only 60-65%. And this connection method does not leak materials, is not easy to tear and not easy to damage the roller. But these two connection methods also have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let us compare them in detail below.

Conveyor belt cold welding: the advantage is that the welding speed is fast, the time is short, the cost is low, and the location is better. The disadvantage is that the environment is very demanding, such as rain and snow, dust, and adhesives are greatly affected by temperature. The durability is not as long as the hot welding time. The temperature, humidity or the thickness of the conveyor belt is not suitable for cold welding.

Hot welding: Since the hot welding head is completely closed, it is less affected by the environment and has a long service life. Disadvantages Hot joints require a vulcanizer and a power source of 380. The conveying of the conveyor is relatively laborious. Relatively high cost. But in comparison, I recommend hot vulcanization to everyone.

How do we choose which method to use for the conveyor belt welding joint? It depends on the relevant situation, whether the cold welding joint or the hot vulcanization joint is used depends on the specific conditions.

1. The type of conveyor belt determines whether it must be hot vulcanized. If it is a steel wire belt (ST), a vulcanized conveyor belt joint must be made; if it is a layered belt (EP), depending on the situation, it can be hot vulcanized or cold bonded. Larger is best cured.

2. Width (referring to EP tape) and length. Generally speaking, 1000mm is a limit. The width is less than 1000mm and can be cold bonded, and if it is higher than 1000mm, it is best to heat vulcanize. Of course, this is only in general, but also refer to other factors, such as lifting angle, material, belt speed, working condition Etc. For example, we used to glue 2200mm EP belt joint cold welding to Zhongneng Bio-power Plant, and the effect is also very good. Generally speaking, the long conveyor belt length chooses hot vulcanization welding joints, and the shorter one uses cold welding.

3. You can refer to the position of the conveyor belt. Some conveyor belts cannot be put into the vulcanizer, so choose the cold welding head.

4. You can refer to the materials to be transported, such as acid- and alkali-resistant, heat-resistant, and denser; hot-vulcanized adhesive joints are better for those with higher moisture.
