How do you adjust a conveyor belt that is mistracking?

I. Pre-operation Safety Prerequisites
Before performing any adjustments, the machine must be shut down and the power disconnected. Ensure the equipment has come to a complete stop before working to prevent accidents caused by entanglement.

II. Core Step-by-Step Adjustment Methods
1. Adjusting Mid-section Misalignment
Shift the idler set on the side toward which the belt is drifting forward (in the direction of belt travel), or shift the idler set on the opposite side backward. Make small, incremental adjustments across multiple idler sets to gradually correct the alignment.
2. Adjusting Misalignment at Pulleys
Head pulley: Shift the bearing housing slightly forward on the side of the misalignment. Tail pulley: Adjust in the opposite direction. Perform repeated fine adjustments until the belt runs smoothly.
3. Adjusting Tension
Gravity (counterweight) tensioning: Add appropriate counterweights to increase tension. Screw tensioning: Synchronously adjust the tensioning travel on both sides to ensure the pulley axis remains perpendicular to the belt centerline.
4. Adjusting Material Loading and Cleaning
Adjust the position of the loading hopper to ensure material falls onto the center of the belt. Clean accumulated material from pulley and idler surfaces to prevent misalignment caused by uneven diameters.
5. Handling Special Scenarios
Crooked, aged, or deformed belt splices: Re-align or re-vulcanize the splice; repair or replace severely worn belts.
Bi-directional belts: Fix one running direction and adjust idlers sequentially; confirm stable operation in that direction before adjusting for the reverse direction.
III. Auxiliary Anti-misalignment Measures
1. Install automatic self-aligning idler sets; these utilize the friction generated by misalignment to automatically correct the belt's path.
2. Use crowned (convex) or tapered pulleys; leveraging the principle that the belt "drifts toward the tight side rather than the loose side" helps reduce the likelihood of misalignment through structural design.
3. Core adjustment rule: Adjust the idlers in the direction *opposite* to the drift (e.g., if it drifts to the left, adjust the idlers to steer it right). Remember: "Drifts to tight, not loose; drifts to large, not small." After each adjustment, run the belt empty to observe the effect, making gradual fine-tunings until the belt runs stably in the center.
