How Are Conveyor Belts Connected on Assembly Lines

Oct 31, 2025

Conveyor belts on assembly lines can be connected using three main methods: mechanical connection, cold adhesive bonding, and hot melt bonding. For lightweight assembly line conveyor belts, hot melt bonding is the most commonly used method.

Mechanical Connection – This method is simple and fast, but the joint strength is relatively low, usually only 40%–50% of the belt's original strength.

Cold Adhesive Bonding – Using adhesive materials to join the belt, this method is easy to operate and relatively quick. The joint strength can typically reach 60%–70% of the belt's strength.

Hot Melt Bonding – This method uses heating equipment to fuse the belt together, providing high joint strength and long service life. The joint strength usually reaches 80%–90% of the belt's original strength.

In assembly line applications, especially in the electronics industry, conveyor belt flatness and smooth operation are critical. For this reason, hot melt bonding is generally the preferred method for connecting belts.
