How to adjust a conveyor belt that is off-center

May 11, 2026

1. Uneven tension causing belt misalignment

Symptom: Belt shifts to the same side under both no-load and heavy-load conditions.

Solution: Adjust the tensioning device to tighten the loose side appropriately and loosen the tight side slightly; Follow the principle of "gradual adjustment" to avoid over-tensioning and damaging the bearings.

2. Misaligned roller installation

Symptom: Belt shifts at the drive or redirecting roller.

Correction method: If the belt shifts to the right → move the right bearing housing forward and the left side backward;
If it shifts to the left → move the left side forward and the right side backward;
Adjust the tail roller in the opposite direction to the head roller.

3. Localized belt misalignment caused by idler roller assembly

Characteristics: Misalignment only occurs in a specific section of the idler roller assembly.

Solution steps: Check if the idler rollers are aligned and rotate freely; If the belt is misaligned to one side, move the idler roller assembly on that side forward 1-2 cm in the running direction, or move the other side backward; Use the elongated mounting holes for fine-tuning to create a guide angle to push the belt back to center.

4. Uneven Material Drop Due to Eccentricity

Phenomenon: Deviation only occurs under heavy load.

Improvement Measures:

Adjust the position of the feed hopper to ensure the material falls in the center;

Install guide plates or baffles to reduce lateral impact.

5. Material Adhesion on Rollers or Idler Rollers

Cause: Coal residue, accumulated adhesive, or other foreign matter causes localized diameter increases and tension increases.

Solutions: Stop the machine and clean the adhered material;

Install V-type sweepers or gravity-feed cleaning brushes to prevent further material accumulation.

6. Belt Structure Issues

Manifestations: Misaligned joints, severely worn or deformed edges.

Solutions: Re-vulcanize the joints to ensure perpendicularity to the centerline;

Replace deformed or damaged conveyor belt sections.

7. Use of Automatic Deviation Correction Devices

Self-aligning Idler Sets: Such as vertical rollers and trough rollers, which can automatically generate lateral thrust to correct the direction when deviation occurs;

Intelligent System: Employing AI visual detection + differential control system, it identifies the deviation in real time and automatically adjusts the deviation in conjunction with the actuator;

Patented technologies such as CN120070571A utilize target segmentation models to calculate the real-time deviation amount, achieving high-precision control.
