How to check whether the joint of the conveyor belt is flat?

Nov 11, 2024

1. Visual inspection
Direct observation: Observe the joint of the conveyor belt directly with the naked eye under sufficient light. Check whether the surface of the joint is flat, whether there are obvious unevenness, gaps, warping or wrinkles.
Multi-angle viewing: Observe the joint from different angles, including from the front, side and bottom to top of the running direction of the conveyor belt, to ensure that all parts of the joint are fully inspected and no possible problems are missed.
2. Touch inspection
Hand feeling judgment: Touch the surface of the joint with your hand to feel its flatness. By touching, you can more intuitively perceive some subtle unevenness, such as small bumps, depressions or rough places. At the same time, pay attention to the feel when touching to judge whether the rubber texture at the joint is uniform.
Press inspection: Press gently on the joint to check whether there is any looseness or deformation. If there are internal defects or loose connections at the joint, you may feel abnormal elasticity or displacement when pressing.
3. Tool-assisted inspection
Use a level: Place the level at the joint of the conveyor belt to check its levelness. The level can help detect whether the joint is tilted or uneven. If the joint is not flat, the bubble in the level will not be in the center.
Feeler gauge measurement: For some narrow gaps or small gaps that are difficult to observe directly, you can use a feeler gauge for measurement. Insert the feeler gauge into the gap and measure the width of the gap to determine the tightness and flatness of the joint. If the gap is too large, it may affect the running stability and sealing of the conveyor belt.
4. Dynamic inspection
Operation observation: During the operation of the conveyor belt, carefully observe the operation of the joint. Check whether the joint passes smoothly through each roller and roller, and whether there is any phenomenon such as jumping, deviation or abnormal vibration. If the joint is not flat, it may cause vibration and deviation of the conveyor belt during operation, affecting the transportation of materials and the normal operation of the equipment.
Stop inspection: After the conveyor belt has been running for a period of time, stop the machine and check the joint again. Observe whether there is material accumulation at the joint during operation, which may be due to material leakage or jamming caused by uneven joints. At the same time, check the wear of the joint to see if there is any local excessive wear caused by unevenness.
5. Comparative inspection
Comparison with standard joints: If there is a standard sample of conveyor belt joints or a joint with known good flatness, the joint to be inspected can be compared with it. The comparison can more intuitively find the problems and differences in the joint to be inspected.
Comparison of adjacent joints: On the same conveyor belt, if there are multiple joints, the adjacent joints can be compared and inspected. Observe whether their flatness is consistent. If a joint is obviously different from other joints, there may be a problem.
6. Record and analysis
Record the inspection results: Record the results of each inspection in detail, including the time and place of the inspection, the specifications of the conveyor belt, the location of the joint, the inspection method, and the problems found. By recording, the state changes of the joint can be tracked and potential problems can be discovered in time.
Analyze the cause of the problem: For the uneven joint problem found during the inspection, an in-depth analysis should be conducted to find out the cause of the problem. It may be caused by improper joint manufacturing process, deviation during installation, external force impact or long-term wear of the conveyor belt during operation. Take appropriate measures to repair or improve according to the specific cause.
