1. Degree of wear
Surface wear: If the wear depth of the conveyor belt surface exceeds 50% of the thickness of the cover rubber, it needs to be replaced.
Exposed core: When the cover rubber of the conveyor belt is worn to expose the steel cord core or nylon core, it means that the conveyor belt has been severely worn and needs to be replaced.
2. Degradation of physical properties
Tensile strength: The tensile strength of the cover layer of an ordinary conveyor belt should not be less than 15MPa, and the elongation at break should not be less than 350%. If the tensile strength and elongation at break of the conveyor belt are lower than these standards, it may need to be replaced.
Abrasion: The abrasion of an ordinary conveyor belt should be ≤200mm³. If the abrasion exceeds this value, it may need to be replaced.
3. Wear of joints
Vulcanized joint wear: If the vulcanized joint of the conveyor belt is severely worn, exposing the steel wire core or nylon core, it poses a serious threat to the strength of the vulcanized joint between the conveyor belts, and it needs to be replaced.
4. Local damage
Wear on the skirt: If the conveyor belt is severely worn on the skirt, the steel rope core or nylon core is exposed in the longitudinal direction of the entire belt. Once the steel rope core is lifted, it is very easy to wrap around the roller, causing the steel rope to be unthreaded or the belt to tear, and it needs to be replaced.
Wear on the middle part: The middle part is severely worn due to the impact of falling materials, resulting in the exposed steel rope core to be unthreaded or the conveyor belt to tear, which needs to be replaced.
5. Service life
Service life assessment: The service life of the conveyor belt is usually between 2 and 5 years, depending on the use environment and maintenance. If the conveyor belt is close to or exceeds its expected service life and is obviously worn, it should be considered for replacement.
6. Economic evaluation
Cost-benefit analysis: If the maintenance cost of the conveyor belt is too high, or its normal operation cannot be guaranteed after maintenance, replacing a new conveyor belt may be a more reasonable choice from an economic point of view.
