How to Adjust Conveyor Belt Tension?

Nov 07, 2025

1. Adjusting for Insufficient Tension
Screw/Hydraulic Tensioning Device: Increase tension by adjusting the tensioning stroke. If the stroke is insufficient, the belt needs to be shortened and the splice re-vulcanized.
Weight Tensioning Device: Increase the counterweight mass until slippage is eliminated, avoiding excessive tension which shortens belt life.
2. Adjusting for Excessive Tension
Loosen the fixing bolts of the vertical section or roller, reduce the tensioning stroke, ensuring the difference between the total belt length and the roller center distance is within the range of 5-5mm.
3. Dynamic Adjustment Techniques
Use a constant tension controller to adapt to load changes, avoiding slippage caused by temperature differences or load fluctuations.
After adjustment, press the belt to test the uniformity of tension on both sides, ensuring there is no localized over-tightening or looseness.
4. Precautions
Prioritize placing the tensioning device at the point of minimum tension (near the drive roller).
Regularly check the wear of the roller lagging. If wear is severe, replace or re-lag the roller.
