How to adjust the tension of the conveyor belt?

Apr 14, 2025

1. Determine the type and position of the tensioning device
Spiral tensioning device: usually located at the tail of the conveyor belt or near the tail.
Weight tensioning device: change the tension of the tensioning roller by adjusting the weight or position of the weight.
Hydraulic tensioning device: works by combining a hydraulic cylinder and a mechanical winch, and automatically adjusts the tension according to the traction of the drive roller.
2. Adjustment steps
Shutdown and power off: ensure that the conveyor belt is in a stopped state and cut off the power supply to ensure safe operation.
Loosen the tensioning device: use a wrench to loosen the bolts on the tensioning wheel so that the tensioning wheel can move freely.
Adjust the tension:
Spiral tensioning device: rotate the screw to make the slide with the nut and the tensioning roller installed on it move longitudinally along the conveyor direction to adjust the conveyor belt tension.
Weight tensioning device: reduce the weight of the weight or raise the position of the weight to reduce the pulling force on the tensioning roller.
Hydraulic tensioner: Set the target value of belt tension through the control panel of the hydraulic system. When the target tension value is reached, stop the hydraulic pump.
Fixing bolts: After adjusting the tension, use a wrench to tighten the bolts on the tensioning wheel to keep the belt stable.
Start and check: Start the conveyor belt, observe its operation, and check whether there are still problems such as deviation or slipping.
3. Precautions
Safe operation: Before adjusting the tension, make sure that the conveyor belt stops running completely and cuts off the power supply.
Tool selection: Use appropriate tools to adjust the tension, and ensure that the quality and size of the tools are appropriate.
Gradual adjustment: During the adjustment process, proceed step by step to avoid excessive adjustments at one time that cause a sharp change in belt tension.
No-load test run: After adjusting the belt tension, a no-load test run should be performed first to observe the operation of the belt.
Regular inspection: Regularly check the wear of the tensioner and belt, and replace severely worn parts in time.
